Samsung and other Korean chaebols used to be major players in the Chinese economy until the 2016-17 trade war lead to a mass exodus out of China and into Vietnam.
Samsung also fell behind TSMC as they were squeezed by Apple's litigation over patent infringement [0] which lead them to use TSMC.
The 2019-21 trade war with Japan also lead to Samsung falling further behind.
At this point, the only solution South Korean players have left is investing in both China (the current article) and the US (much of the semiconductor related investments under the Biden admin was Samsung initiated)
