    Securing EV Charging Networks :

Key Cybersecurity Standards As electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure grows, so does the need to protect it from cyber threats. Several cybersecurity standards have emerged to safeguard EV charging networks, especially those considered critical infrastructure. Here are the most important ones:

    IEC 62443

A comprehensive standard for securing industrial automation and control systems.

IEC 62443-4-2 defines technical security requirements for EV charging station components.

Used by Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to ensure secure procurement and integration of charging stations.

    ISO 15118

Focuses on secure communication between EVs and charging stations.

Enables Plug & Charge functionality using TLS encryption and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).

Supports Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and Smart Charging, with digital certificates for mutual authentication.

ISO 27001: Relates to the management of information security for charging networks.

OCPP 2.0.1 (Open Charge Point Protocol)

A protocol for communication between charging stations and management systems.

    Includes three security profiles:

    Basic Authentication

    TLS with Basic Authentication

    TLS with Client-Side Certificates

Ensures secure firmware updates, event logging, and mutual authentication.

    NIST IR 8473

A U.S. cybersecurity framework profile for Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) infrastructure.

Defines mission objectives like secure communications, operational resilience, and trustworthy relationships.

    NIS2 Directive (EU)

Treats EV charging networks as critical infrastructure.

    Requires:

    Cyber risk management

    Incident reporting

    Supply chain security

    Data protection compliance
