This is the same line of thinking that drove the railway bubble, the dot-com bubble, and probably a bunch of others... "it's a winner-takes-all race, so it's worth spending unlimited $$$ to be the winner, and then we capture the market and print money forever!".
Maybe that works in markets with big moats, switching costs, barriers to entry and stuff, but for commodities, not so much.
