I've never used an ORM by choice with or without AI, they are antithetical to relational databases.

I did build a natural language to query, AI using Claude.

where you can go "which is our top selling product in Africa for 2025" and it will build the query for you live in a web browser, execute it and then show you the results.

The good thing about that you don't have to give the AI your actual sales figures, so you can't leak it.

How does it know your schema? Do you have it connect to a real database, or did you feed it a query that constructs the schema?

I used the comment functions on tables and columns in Postgres to describe what's in them and then at start up it reads all the comments and uses that to build its description of the world to form queries.
