A personal reflection on how AI tools like GitHub Copilot are making it trivial to clone existing indie developer products, and the impact on the sustainability of indie development. The author proposes introducing friction back into the development process, not the old coding friction, but thinking friction, and introduces a "Product Moral Compass" agent to help developers make informed decisions before building.

From a bird's-eye view you could say that the speed of building has always outpaced some of the thinking that should have been done :)

It can be a defect that perfectly working software has, which is worse than a bug.

This can slip through the cracks or be swept under the rug whether it's intentional or not

But when the pace is put on steroids, it would be way more difficult for observers to ignore.

Looks like you're a very thoughtful developer.

Definitely, it's not something new, but the speed at which it is happening right now is faster than ever.
