This rambling piece means absolutely nothing to the average person who heard Sam Altman and Mustafa Suleyman tell them that AI is going to eat their jobs. Then you have Matt Shumer saying the impact and disruption of AI will be bigger than COVID. Of course this "article" conveniently never mentions any of that.

    > If AI is just “spicy autocomplete,” then what’s responsible for the current frenzy of attention? Autocorrect could explain away pre-ChatGPT interest levels without too much trouble. But it doesn’t come close to accounting for the trillions now invested, the data centers appearing around every corner, or the daily reports of AI automating task after task.

If tulip bulbs are just “pretty flowers,” then what's responsible for the current frenzy of attention? Garden fashion could explain away pre-mania interest levels without too much trouble. But it doesn't come close to accounting for the fortunes now committed, the contracts changing hands on street corners, or the daily reports of bulb prices climbing higher and higher.

To pull a GPT-ism, the question isn't why the left has taken a critical position against genAI. The question is why the right hasn't. =)

I'll leave it to you to guess the answer, and it's pretty obvious actually…

The hell did I just read? This is a blatant straw man argument that cherry picks quotes with no relation to politics then falsely attributes the opinions expressed to some perceived political view. AI could have cooked up a better argument for itself.

Aren't most employees at Google left leaning?

As left-leaning as Twitch streamers driving luxury German cars but preaching Marxism.
