IIUC they are analyzing how the tear in the slab changed in the last million years. Also, the graphic avoids showing another slab that is over like 1/3 of the graphic and a lot of mud that is over them.
It' would be super nice to have a video that shows the changes in time, that also includes the other slab as a semi transparent object.
