Similarly, it's better (for me) to use the right ring finger for Backspace rather than the pinky. The pinky requires moving the whole arm whereas the ring finger just needs a wrist flick to reach Backspace.
Yeah, 1 - 5 with left hand method is how I was taught, but last couple of years, old and stiff perhaps, the left ring finger with out even thinking about it, is what I end up using -- my little finger is also much shorter. I'm lazy at heart I guess and since I'm entering numbers a lot, there's a lot less energy shifting and stretching to get that little finger to reach the 1 key ... oddly I still use the little finger if I need to use the exclamation mark.
