In this article, I detail out my home NAS system built on FreeBSD and ZFS. It is a dual-node primary/replica system based on ZFS send/recv, instead of RAID, and is built on super cheap easily replaceable hardware. It has some unique features like a fully automated setup with Ansible, a control panel GUI, an idle monitor to save electricity, and a cloud sync option for AWS Deep Glacier archive.
