"AI will displace human labor at very large scale, which is horrible and will lead to mass poverty and premature death, but we still felt the need to aggressively develop & market it to you because uhhhhh if we didn't, someone else might." One molotov wasn't enough for these guys.

Unlike Altman's cronies, at least Anthropic leadership appears to walk the walk with their fear-based marketing, and isn't turning around and donating millions to deregulation Super PACs.

The uptick in Indeed job listings is not a reliable indicator of job growth. AI has simply made it easier to render JDs and screen candidates at scale. Wouldn't it be expected that software companies would be better at leveraging the tech to create more job listings?

Tell that to all the other ceo and management who sees and in a lot of cases already acting on ai as an employee replacement tool.

Even having an optimistic view of this will automate away jobs people don’t want to do… well those people do that job to make a pay check and healthcare. And in the USA healthcare is tied to you being employed

Good luck. Hope you don’t get cancer.

But reality never takes the optimistic view. Everything turns to Enshitification as history shows. Especially with people like Sam running the show. He isn’t just gonna wake up one day and really give a shit about humanity.

It's automating away the ONLY jobs anyone ever wanted to do. You see game dev companies saying stuff like "oh we're only using it for previz". Oh you mean the one fun creative speculative job in the chain where you make art and ideate about characters and fashion and the look? Wow cool, I can still do tedious details and go to meetings? Oh I don't get to problem solve and make drafts and prototypes and test my skill at a craft, I get to code review generated 10,000 line PRS? Exciting.

Employer provided health care is a travesty. It insulates a big chunk of voters from seeing how terrible the US health care system actually is. Unfortunately I didn't think there is any way to get rid of it short of something like Medicare for all.

It might have worked as an idea back in the day when you had an employers who treated you as someone they care about.

But this day and age there isn’t the idea of a pension anymore. People don’t stay at the same company for 30+ years because these companies could give absolute zero fs about you. That concept doesn’t exist in the world these days. And now ai will replace you in the next ten years.

I agree with you 1000% As an American I’m hopeless about this.

I guess the idea now is drink whole milk and grass fed steak and avoid the garbage food system

Not sure how I’m gonna pay for healthcare and organic grass fed beef when all these ceos and management of these huge companies consolidating more and more and reducing their workforce more and more for ai agents and whatever is next.

We all have anxiety about loosing our job and getting cancer in this country.
