I, unintentionally, see sleep as just lost time - I know I feel good when I’m rested and I can do more in the awake hours. It’s almost like how the innies in Severence have no concept of time or existence outside of work. When their day ends, it’s just an immediate reset to the start of the next day.

I often joke with my finance about how I’m 15 minutes away from a meeting when we’re getting ready for bed - as soon as I fall asleep I’ll wake up and need to get on my first meeting.

I feel like I often procrastinate going to bed, because I know I’m 15 minutes away from a meeting - but I can just push it further away by staying up longer.

The more I dread the next day, the more I procrastinate going to bed.

Does anyone else see time like this? My finance makes fun of me for having such a silly view on going to bed.

Your financial situation is very interesting!

Every time I catch up on sleep I feel amazing and vow to myself that I’ll never stay up late again. That it’s just not worth it.

I’ve been re-learning this lesson for a good 25 or so years now.

Over 60 years, here. The older you get, the harder the lessons, and the easier to learn from them, LOL.

Most of my friends now help me remember to end phone calls by midnight. HN and Wikipedia are less forgiving, but I'm learning to just leave the tabs open and get back to them the next day.

Same here. Same with not downing the harshest rye whiskey again. Executive function something or other …

I am usually procrastinating sleeping because if I won't wake up soon enough (6-7 hours) I am probably going to end up with a mild headache which will usually runaway into head splitting migraine.

So the fear that tomorrow may be the day full of pain is keeping me awake from inevitable sleep.

I put off going to sleep because there's always the chance, no matter how small, that Gisele Bündchen might turn up at the door, and how would you feel if you woke up the next day and found you'd missed your chance because you were asleep?

Matthew Walker’s Why we sleep book and his podcasts changed my perspectives on the importance of sleep - https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/34466963-why-we-sleep

Never heard of this book, so I looked it up.

      From the "Crticial reception" section:

Criticism surrounding the book involved concern about statistical errors in the book and the alarmism it generated in some readers.[27] A review from Alexey Guzey, an independent researcher, criticized the book in an essay entitled Matthew Walker's "Why We Sleep" Is Riddled with Scientific and Factual Errors.[28] The criticism was discussed on the BBC series More or Less.[29] Guzey's criticism was also discussed by Andrew Gelman, a statistician at Columbia University.[30] In a later post on Columbia's statistics blog, Gelman indicated that Walker's purported removal of a bar from a graph could be a "smoking gun," commenting that it entered "research misconduct" territory.[31] Walker posted his responses to these and other criticisms in 2019 on his own blog.

Additional critiques are listed in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Walker_(scientist)#Why...

Not being a domain expert, I'd certainly want to see a handful of peer reviews for a book of this sort before subscribing to its conclusions. The fact that it's a best-seller and well-received by the mainstream press is largely irrelevant.

I've been discussing this with friends. I rue waking up, knowing the day that awaits, so I stay up as long as I can to avoid the time warp.
