IMO the value of engineering has always been understanding the problem and designing a way to solve it. If you think about the average day of a non-entry level engineer, the vast majority of it has never been hands on keyboard typing code.
Explore new opportunities, Engineers with a problem solving mindset generally are more versatile to adapt and pick up on new skills.
