I'm a gen-z guy and the feeling of unease is just off the charts. Our generation and the generations after just got handed the worst deal of the past 50 years. It's like the collective generations prior just amassed a giant pile of crap and dumped it on us, while retracting every ladder they used to have.

It's hard to compete for a slot in uni, then it's hard to compete for a slot in the labor market, then it's hard to compete for a slot in the housing market. Every phase is designed to lock you out. And meanwhile cost of living is so high there is no way to grind your way to a decent standard of living. There is no pathway for most young people to "make it". The best we've got is just to survive and hope things get better. And things just get worse every year.

    It’s not just China.

Even as a GenX, I am seeing today’s wild corporate obsession with AI to be much like a 9.5-Richter thrust-fault earthquake, combined with a zombie apocalypse: despair and systemic, overpowering threats everywhere, while all the fortifications that people could rely on in prior eras crumbling into uselessness.

If I was young now, I would likely crack. I am already wildly incapable of conforming, having various neurodivergent issues that are wholly incompatible with economic servitude, and so am particularly vulnerable in this capitalistic hellhole that violently coerces us to be profitable to someone else least we suffer starvation, destitution, homelessness, or even death.

Watching the elite revolt going on and how much these pernicious malignant people in the US have just got red America wrapped around their little finger, I feel much less remote horror and sadness at this event, and a feeling like this big crunch is coming and is going to be terrible for the whole world.

I'm so sorry China. Best of luck to us all.
