They’re no different to China really, China will steal your IP and outcompete you on industrial efficiency, America transfers your IP and threatens you with invasion. It has the same effect ultimately, all your smart people leave and all of your industry is crushed.

The USA is not Elon Musk. I would never trust Elon Musk. He is a selfish conman.

I still cannot she how people fall for his bullshit and respect him. He has done nothing to benefit humanity, only his bank account.

Unfortunately the deplorable Donald Trump is President and who is also a conman that only wishes to better his bank account. His atrocities against humanity are innumerable.

Such individuals do not deserve any respect or recognition for harming the civilized world.

This is why I cheer for the EU and other nations walking away from the USA. It is renewed competition for humanity versus pure profit.

is the accusation here that the US is not loyal? or that they have breached a treaty, contract or even an explicit promise? if so which precisely?

      https://truthout.org/articles/trump-withdraws-us-from-dozens...

many easy searches will give you lists, this is just one

When Trump did not get the Nobel Peace Prize, his response was "I no longer need to think purely of peace" in relation to Greenland iirc

How are other countries to interpret this?

Oh it's not an accusation : the US is the least loyal, least reliable ally you could ever have. Every single occasion they've had to demonstrate it, they did. They'll get you in deep shit, use you then leave you.

You can be independent? But as the countries have found out, they have no firm rock to begin with.

Welcome to living among humans, where choices are made.

Every country made their choice, willingly or not, then lived by it for several generations. Now we have a generation of nationalists, we'll see how that ends up down the road for better or worse.
