It is very easy to avoid plagiarism in age of Ai, more so than before, I would guess. Ai can be asked to paraphrase someone's work in different style and if that is not enough, it can be repeated multiple times using the output as input of another pass and eventually no one can tell what the source was after couple of passes, not even the author. In essence, obvious forms of plagiarism of the past is of bygone era.

Plagiarism isn't the same thing as copyright infringement. Plagiarism is an ethics requirement that something be the work of the submitter. You can be expelled from a school for turning in a public domain work as your own, even though you can legally sell copies of it.

TIL that it comes from Latin (obviously) word plaga, meaning “a net, snare, or hunting net” (and sometimes “a blow from a whip”). And from this came plagium (kidnapping) and plagiarius (kidnapper).
