I know my english could use some improvement and I will leave this first comment to clarify I am a Brazilian developer: My main language is Portuguese, but I've been a productive software engineer for over 3 consecutive years in companies with daily meetings and did a good job. All I am asking is what should we (software engineers) focus our effort on?
I'm sorry for you and everyone else going through this, its madness; besides this you also need to deal with fake jobs, malware in take-home challenges, a pile of incoming messages selling you the "best" AI job search tool, etc.
I'm aware how bad it fills to put your heart on filling an application for the perfect role just to get nothing back out of it.
Unfortunately, I can't offer a solution but want to share that you must keep going, this process must eventually pay off.
I'd encourage you to leverage your connections, reach out to any past manager/coworker, reach out to friends; referrals is the simplest way to land an interview.
Besides this, I'd suggest to try going over the monthly "Who wants to be hired?" posts, after referrals, that's how I landed most interviews.
"I don't know" is the last thing I expected someone to say, everyone is so fuckin certain nowadays. Thank you for taking the effort to post that, I mean it. I've always felt insecure about most of my convictions because the environment I was raised in could not support mistakes, which was perfect for computer engineering: We can always test again when we get something wrong. People are clearly not like that (or so I learned). Thanks. Really.

Good luck.
I don’t know either, but you have a great attitude and I wish you good luck.
