> Flock camera searches fall 95% in Highland Heights after dispatcher's misconduct caught
This establishes a baseline. More evidence can adjust it, and we have one data point here, but I'm going for it:
*Absent meaningful regulations, 95% of Flock searches are illegal.*
I'm not trying to dismiss the gravity of the abuse these camera systems facilitate.
My comment was meant to convey that the headline on this post was missing the context of the locality in which the searches were happening.
The story is really about one dispatcher using the system improperly in one police department.
The truncated headline here implies that one person was responsible for 95% of all Flock camera searches.
Improper for sure. Illegal? maybe. It should be at least.
yahoo news link with the same content

95% is still 5% short
Broken link, redirects to a YouTube channel.
Not for me. I see the expected news article.
I confirm that it redirects to YouTube. Some weird A/B testing or per region content selection?
I got "Access Denied" on my arm of that test.
I got access denied, and then it worked after a refresh.
I got a "disable adblocker" popup from the Admiral system
I think that's how some US media outlets implement GDPR-related blocking for EU users.
1. broken link, goes to YouTube channel
2. clickbait headline (but maybe due to HN length limits?), they went down only in one location
