What's sad is that most people in the U.S. still believe the narrative that China is heavily reliant on diesel and coal and polluting more than any other country when the reality is that they've seemingly been executing on a more long term plan that will give them way more energy independence and environmentally responsible economy while the U.S. is stuck in the past, content with the lie of American Exceptionalism.

In the US I would love to see a second infrastructure project on the level of the Interstate system of the 1950's (yes I know there was a lot of baggage with that).

I would love to see overhead wires on a portion of the Interstate system combined with electric trucks that can run off a pantograph-type configuration on the highway and then pure battery for highway-exit to pickup/delivery.

It wouldn't handle every trucking case, but I think it would make a big dent in pollution and noise.

China is leading the push to decarbonise mining, and is now offering a full suite of electrified heavy equipment, with Volvo bieng a big player in marketing equipment to western operations. Automation and management software for this equipment is yielding further gains in efficiency and productivity, with current fuel costs reducing ROE very significantly , with more than a few special cases where mine trucks are loaded uphill from where they dump and are in regen all the way down, but the empty return trip uses less energy than the gravity regen so they can also 'dump' the excess electricity, and while this isn't changing industrys numbers overall, it sue drives the point of electrification home in a way that no other technology can compete with as it is all the exact same equipment used everywhere else.
