    > AI Slop Threatens Trust in Science

The title of this post is terribly wrong and neither corresponds to the title of the article nor its claims. The article does not claim or demonstrate scientific slop; it's rather a low-information commentary; there is even an irony in warning about low-value, superficially plausible content while offering little independently assessable evidence of its own.

I would rather say that trust in science has suffered long before AI; "slop" existed long before AI, since the number of published articles has become much more important than their content, and postmodern activism has supplanted genuine scholarly work and reasoning.

In this regard, AI could in fact be even helpful in pointing authors to their nonsensical arguments before publication, or even preventing them altogether, if this kind of authors rather prefer to delegate the writing process entirely.

Unfortunately, it's not just AI that's faking plausible papers. Hopefully the overflow of AI slop into the scientific journal system will force a rethink on how to do a better job of only inducting the cream of real research into the pipeline. Who gets to decide what counts as the cream of real research? Hopefully human being smarter than me.

nuh uh, HUMAN slop and greed is already leaning realy hard on whatever constitutes 'science', SI (simulated intelligence) is just making it easier.
